Ennis Hazelnut

Ennis is a globally recognized American variety, selected in Washington state in the mid-20th century, known for its extremely large, attractive fruits, classifying it as a "jumbo" variety. Its late budding (beginning of March) is a major advantage, as it reliably avoids late spring frosts, which results in outstanding yield security. It is not a self-fertile variety, so a suitable pollinator should be planted nearby for a regular and abundant yield. Although it comes into bearing somewhat slower (6th–7th year), it produces high and stable yields once established. The fruit is spectacularly large, weighing 3–4.5 g, with an elongated and showy shape. Its light brown shell is moderately hard but easily cracked. Due to its impressive size and appearance, Ennis is one of the most desired varieties for direct consumption and the fresh market.
