The Tonda Gentile delle Langhe is a protected Italian variety (IGP) and is the standard for luxury quality and noble aroma, often called the “famous Piedmont hazelnut”. It is considered the best hazelnut variety in the world. This variety is the raw material for the finest pralines and hazelnut creams, including the world-famous “Nutella”. Its greatest advantage is the full kernel, which almost perfectly fills the shell (yield up to 50%). It starts bearing fruit early, yielding regularly and reliably/richly. It requires a pollinator for a richer/more abundant harvest and thrives best in a sunny location. The fruits usually develop in clusters of 2–4 and fall out of the husks easily/spontaneously when ripe (mid-August to early September). The kernel's taste is gently sweet with a buttery note, transforming into a captivating aroma and crunchy texture when roasted. It is one of the most sought-after raw materials in the confectionery industry.
